Bluesky Enhances Referral Tracking and Rolls Out New Features

March 26, 2025

Bluesky Adds Referral Tracking & New Engagement Features
Bluesky is making life easier for publishers. The platform has introduced a small but significant update that helps publishers track referral traffic more accurately when users click on shared links.

According to Bluesky employee Emily Liu, links shared through the app now pass through a “go.bsky.app” subdomain before redirecting users to their final destination. This subtle routing change allows analytics tools to recognize that the traffic originated from Bluesky—giving publishers clearer insights into how their content performs on the platform.

This improvement was driven by feedback from media outlets who noticed engagement inside the app—likes, reposts, and comments—but struggled to see that engagement reflected in their web traffic analytics. Now, thanks to the “go” subdomain, referral sources will be much easier to track.

If you're new to the platform and curious about What is Bluesky, here's everything you need to know about its origins, features, and how it compares to other social media networks.

More New Features to Boost Engagement

Bluesky hasn’t stopped there. The platform recently released a batch of feature updates designed to improve user experience and increase interaction.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Longer Video Uploads: Users can now upload videos up to 3 minutes long, compared to the previous 1-minute limit. This encourages richer storytelling and content sharing within posts.

  • Chat Requests: A new Chat Requests folder helps users manage direct messages from people they don’t follow. It offers a more organized and secure inbox experience.

  • Mute From Posts: You can now mute accounts directly from posts. Just tap the three-dot menu and select “Mute account” to reduce unwanted noise or attention in your feed.

  • New Language Support: Bluesky is expanding its international reach with new translations in Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, and Esperanto, making the platform more accessible for global users.

  • Trending Topics: Introduced last December, the Trending section highlights popular discussions across the platform. Topics like “Christmas,” “Wikipedia,” and “Nosferatu” have made appearances, and the feature is available on both mobile and desktop apps.

With these changes, Bluesky continues to grow beyond being a Twitter alternative – building a platform that’s responsive to its community and modern content-sharing needs.
