Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s Deleted Tweets Ignite Controversy
February 24, 2025

New Delhi – Shortly after assuming office as Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta—BJP MLA from Shalimar Bagh and former Delhi Mayor—has drawn significant attention for removing several old posts from her X (formerly Twitter) account.
The erased tweets, which reportedly contained critical and provocative comments about former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have reemerged as circulated screenshots on social media. Gupta’s appointment came just 11 days after the Delhi Assembly election results were announced, a decision that was widely welcomed by both BJP supporters and members of the opposition.
However, amid the congratulatory messages, Gupta’s online activity has sparked fierce criticism, especially from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. They argue that by deleting these tweets, she appears to be distancing herself from her previous positions. The content in question is said to have included severe critiques of Kejriwal’s leadership, accusations of corruption, and disapproval of his policy decisions. This development has led many to question whether Gupta is signaling a major shift in her political stance as she takes on her new role.
Born in Jind, Haryana, the 50-year-old politician has been active since her student days. A law graduate from Meerut, Gupta began her political journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and has long been affiliated with the BJP. Prior to her current role, she served as Mayor of North Delhi and was an influential figure within the party’s women’s wing. Her rise to power is notable, as she stands as the only female Chief Minister among the BJP’s 21 state governments.
The resurfacing of these tweets has added a new dimension to the scrutiny of her early tenure, with political commentators suggesting that her handling of the situation could set the tone for her leadership in the coming months.
