Elon Musk Deletes Tweet Linking Trump to Epstein Files
June 20, 2025

Elon Musk has deleted a series of controversial tweets in which he alleged that former President Donald Trump appeared in the so-called Epstein files. One since-deleted tweet from June 5 claimed, “That is the real reason they have not been made public,” with Musk urging followers to “mark this post for the future.”
These comments were part of Musk’s multi-day online criticism of Trump, where he called on Congress to reject what he labeled Trump’s “big beautiful bill,” citing its estimated $2.4 trillion cost and calling it “ugly” and “pork-filled.” Musk even suggested Trump should face impeachment over the bill’s implications.
However, Musk appears to have backtracked amid backlash from Trump supporters and political commentators. Investor James Fishback, previously linked to the crypto community and a vocal supporter of Trump, tweeted that Musk owed the former president a sincere apology. “Every hour you delay, it’ll make an eventual apology less sincere,” he added.
Musk responded under Fishback’s tweet, writing, “What’s the apology for exactly,” before stating he would apologize “profusely” if the full Epstein documents were released. These responses have also since been removed.
Fishback escalated his criticism in a CNN interview, arguing Musk’s impeachment suggestion was baseless and his Epstein-related accusation bordered on slander. He emphasized that policy disagreements should not devolve into personal attacks, especially involving figures like Jeffrey Epstein.
While some voices agreed Musk crossed a line, others defended him, arguing that he had been used by Trump and didn’t owe him anything. One user wrote, “He owes Trump exactly nothing,” accusing Trump of misleading Musk on spending reform and then turning on him.
Despite rumors of a private call to smooth tensions, BBC News reported that Trump is currently “not interested” in reconciling with Musk. The fallout underscores a deepening rift between the two once-aligned public figures.
