Hillary Clinton Joins Bluesky, Hits 120K in 7 Hours
April 02, 2025

Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State, First Lady, and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, has officially joined the decentralized social media platform Bluesky—and she didn’t come quietly.
Within just six hours, Clinton amassed over 120,000 followers, making her one of the platform’s fastest-growing users ever and landing her in Bluesky’s Top 500 most-followed accounts.
Clinton’s Follower Surge Shakes Up Bluesky Rankings
By 6:45 p.m. on Monday evening, Clinton had reached 121,607 followers, according to Bluesky analytics tracker VQV. That was enough to bump her just ahead of Senator Cory Booker, who previously held the #498 spot.
On April 2nd, the follower count reached more than 200K.
Clinton’s rapid ascent has many observers predicting that she’ll continue climbing the platform’s leaderboard. To reach the top spot, however, she’ll need a lot more followers—Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez currently holds that position with over 2 million.
Why Bluesky — And Why Now?
In her first posts, Clinton stated that she joined the platform to engage with users ahead of the Wisconsin Supreme Court election happening on Tuesday. While her initial posts remain minimal, the timing signals a strategic effort to reach a younger, politically engaged audience on an alternative platform to X (formerly Twitter).
Clinton has long been active on social media, but her decision to join Bluesky is a notable shift away from legacy platforms and toward decentralized tech—a space that’s rapidly gaining traction among public figures, journalists, and tech-savvy communities.
A New Arena for Political Heavyweights
Clinton joins a growing list of major political and media figures on Bluesky. Here’s how her current follower count compares:
Bernie Sanders – 460,057 followers (#47)- Rachel Maddow – 982,510 followers (#8)
- Tim Walz (Minnesota Governor) – 404,081 followers (#58)
For context, Bluesky currently has a user base of just under 34 million people, so Clinton’s numbers are especially impressive given the platform’s smaller population compared to X.
What’s Next for Clinton on Bluesky?
It remains to be seen how active Clinton will be on the platform or whether her early momentum will continue. But her presence alone is already reshaping Bluesky’s political landscape, signaling that the platform could become a new battleground for digital influence as the 2024 U.S. election cycle heats up.
