McGregor Deletes Quickfire Tweet After Ian Machado Garry’s UFC Kansas City Win

McGregor Deletes Tweet After Garry’s UFC Victory
Conor McGregor briefly celebrated fellow Irishman Ian Machado Garry’s dominant performance at UFC Kansas City – before mysteriously deleting his two-word tweet.

Garry, fighting in the main event, showcased his skills in a one-sided bout against Brazil’s Carlos Prates, bouncing back strongly after a tough loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov in December. His flawless five-round showing earned him the role of official back-up for the upcoming welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315.

Watching from Ireland, McGregor posted a short and supportive message – “Great Fight”  –  accompanied by emojis of the Irish and Brazilian flags and a heart. But within an hour, the tweet was removed without explanation, fueling fan speculation. The deleted post echoed a similar move McGregor made earlier in the night after a comment about Anthony Smith’s retirement also vanished from his feed.

McGregor has long supported Garry, having trained with him in the past and offered mentorship since his UFC debut at Madison Square Garden. Though inactive in the octagon since 2021, McGregor has stayed involved behind the scenes and remains closely tied to Ireland’s MMA prospects, especially in the 170lb division where he could stage his own return.

Garry, energized by the win, called for another shot at the title picture, arguing that he should have been first in line when Rakhmonov was forced out of UFC 315 due to injury. He’s now preparing to fly to Montreal in two weeks, where he’ll make championship weight and remain ready in case one of the headliners pulls out.

UFC president Dana White confirmed post-fight that Garry will serve as the official stand-in for the card’s main event, further cementing his rising star status in the welterweight division.
