X Suffers Widespread Outage, Thousands Report Issues

April 04, 2025

X Down for Thousands in Major Outage
Thousands of users were unable to access Elon Musk’s X platform on Friday, with error messages and app glitches reported across the globe.

Over 50,000 Reports Filed During Outage

According to outage tracker Downdetector.com, the issue peaked at around 2:46 p.m. ET, with more than 53,000 users submitting complaints. A majority—roughly 54%—reported trouble accessing the X mobile app, while others faced issues with the website itself.

On desktop, users were greeted with a generic error:

“Something went wrong. Try reloading.”

The disruption, while brief, impacted a large portion of the platform’s global audience.

Service Restored in Under 30 Minutes

Fortunately, the outage appeared to be resolved in less than 30 minutes. Still, the downtime adds to a growing list of technical troubles for the platform, which has struggled with stability in recent months.

X’s Ongoing Tech Troubles

X, formerly known as Twitter, has experienced several outages since Elon Musk’s takeover. Earlier this month, a March 10 disruption was attributed by Musk to a “massive cyberattack.” Before that, in August 2024, over 66% of users reported app and server issues.

In July 2023, key features temporarily broke, and in March 2024, Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign launch on Twitter Spaces crashed mid-event—marking yet another technical blunder under Musk’s leadership.
