Ditchit Detonates Twitter Bird Logo in Nevada Desert as Wild Promo

June 19, 2025

Ditchit Blows Up Twitter Bird Logo in Desert Stunt
In a bizarre and over-the-top marketing stunt, Ditchit — a rising competitor to Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp — blew up a 500-pound Twitter bird sign in the Nevada desert. The sign, once perched atop Twitter’s former headquarters in San Francisco, was acquired at auction for a hefty $34,000.

According to Ditchit’s PR rep, James Deluca, the team of tech enthusiasts originally bought the iconic blue-and-white sign out of nostalgia. "Everyone in the office is a tech enthusiast, and we thought it would be cool to own a piece of history," Deluca told Endgadget.

After transporting the massive 12-foot emblem to their Orange County HQ, the idea to destroy it “emerged organically” as a bold form of publicity. The team claims the act symbolizes their vision of rebranding local marketplaces in the spirit of Elon Musk’s Twitter-to-X transformation — something they say supports “free expression.”

The spectacle was complete with a caravan of four Ditchit-branded Cybertrucks driving the logo deep into the Nevada desert before blowing it up on camera. It seems their main goal was to stir buzz—and it’s working. Media outlets like Endgadget and SFist have already taken notice.

Now, in a twist of irony, Ditchit is auctioning off the shattered remnants of the bird logo. The bidding ends on July 17, leaving just enough time for someone to decide if they want to own a piece of this explosive promo.

Whether this stunt boosts Ditchit’s visibility in the online classifieds space remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: blowing up a tech relic is one way to get attention—even if the message is, well, a little messy.
